Why are there 2 mothers day?

Mother's day is celebrated on various dates across the world, for example The UK one is on the fourth Sunday in March each year, the American one is celebrated on the second Sunday in May each year whilst many other countries celebrate it on other dates due to tradition mostly.

What is the difference between Mothering Sunday and Mothers Day?

Traditionally during Lent, people would worship at their Mother Church - the largest church in the area. Children in service would be given this day off to go to their mother church and have the opportunity to give gifts to their mothers as they often hadn't seen their mother due to services and apprenticeships they were sent away to do. This became known as "Mothering Sunday". The tradition died out due to the attendance drop off but despite this "Mothering Sunday" still remains and is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of March (Lent) in the UK (27th March 2022). It is commonly known as "Mother's Day" in the US and is celebrated in the same way with cards, flowers chocolates etc. on the second Sunday in May.

Why is Mother's Day different every year?
